The Innovation Award Judges

To judge such a prestigious award we needed a fitting panel, and I think we’ve found it.

The panel consists of a broad spectrum of professionals; client-side, agency-side, business owners, developers and technologists; they each have a wealth of experience in technology and have seen myriad innovations.

We introduce to you the Innovation Award Judging Panel:

Szabolcs (a.k.a. Sam) Ban

Szabolcs Ban

CTO and Architect at Storesco Ltd.

Sam is the technical head at, a multi-store multinational retailer, and has over 10 years of e-commerce experience.

A passionate polyglot programmer, he enjoys inventing crazy things using a multitude of technologies. Sam is also the co-organiser of the London Magento Meetup and an enthusiastic Hackathon attendee.



Rik Blacow

Rik Blacow

Head of Innovation at Sage Pay

Rik has been working with technology since 1996, starting out in the early days of mobile computing, and has been with Sage Pay since 2008. He initially set up the QA function at Sage Pay, but has run the Innovation Practice since late 2012. He and his team are responsible for looking at future product possibilities, payment platform enhancements and generally getting the best out of the Sage Pay platform.

When not working on all things payments, he can be found indulging his love of classic rock, playing bass guitar and dying his hair strange colours.

Rik isn’t a big Tweeter, but maybe we can tempt him?

Alex is an award-winning Creative Director and a founding director of Session. He oversees every aspect of our creative output across a wide range of platforms and mediums. An expert at enhancing the brand experience, he’s responsible for injecting awe into client projects.

With 14 years’ experience, Alex is fluent in the practical aspects of Magento web design and interactive development. He graduated from the University College for the Creative Arts in 1999 with first class honours in Visual Communication, Graphic Design and Web Design.

Ecommerce Product Manager at Travelex

Mitch is a passionate, customer-focused product manager with E=expertise in international eCommerce, Magento, financial products, and delivering exceptional software products.

He is the organiser of the London Magento Users Group, which he built into the largest and most active Magento meetup in the world. Mitch also organises its annual Hackathon and Demo Day startup pitch events. Presenter, speaker, and author. Highlights include: “Magento for Managers” ebook; Magento Live UK presentation; speaker at various e-commerce events and the London Exploratory Workshops on Testing.

Innovation Insider at Nick Lansley’s Innovation Lab

An “Innovation Insider” with a passion for bringing pragmatic innovation techniques and ways-of-working to areas of business that want to start their own innovation teams, or who are struggling to get traction with innovation projects. Nick loves inspiring people with the possibilities that innovation techniques can bring to their business and themselves.

Nick also teaches programming / coding, and he’s a champion of accessibility that wants to close the ‘digital divide’. The Information Age is for everyone, not just for those with the cognitive, physical and financial abilities to access it.



Allan MacGregor

Allan MacGregor is a Magento Developer living and working in Toronto and has been working with Magento since late 2009.

In early 2012, he started working at Demac Media, Toronto as Magento Lead Developer; and nowadays he works as the Director of Engineering, constantly working on improving Code Quality, Developer Best Practices, and Testing Methodologies. He is a passionate advocate for testing and always interested in trying new technologies and languages.



Chris Simmons

Chris Simmons is a Digital Commerce Professional who most recently managed Enterprise Sales and Strategic Partnerships for 4 years at Magento. His passion for exploring the intersection of Business and Technology has given him the opportunity over the last 15 years to work for companies ranging from startups and SMB’s to Fortune 100 corporations in a variety of consulting sales and business development roles. Chris recently returned from a sabbatical in Southeast Asia and is now looking to start his next adventure in the commerce world.

When he’s not writing about himself in the 3rd person Chris enjoys advising startups, competing in triathlons, traveling as well as relaxing in his cactus garden back home in Los Angeles. Although he cannot contribute code, he’s always willing to contribute or give back to the community with advice, feedback or introductions so the best way to connect with him is on Twitter or LinkedIn.
